Letter from the CEO

12/27/2005

Dear Friends,

WAND’s new Local Search Taxonomy has officially launched and, along with a first customer in the Yellow Pages Group in Canada, we are seeing strong interest from a large number of players in the local search space.

Why is there a high level of demand for a comprehensive, structured set of local search terminology?  The answer is simple: statistics show that anywhere from twenty to thirty percent of local searches on the internet are unsatisfactory for the user.  Our internal studies show that for many sites, this number may be even higher. This means that at least 20-30% of the time local search consumers are getting irrelevant and inconsistent company listings for the search terms they are using or – even worse – are getting no results at all.  If your users are frustrated by the search results your site delivers, they will migrate to local search portals that are delivering accurate results on a consistent basis.

The WAND Local Search Taxonomy includes nearly a million normalized local search terms which help eliminate the lion’s share of those failed searches.  Implementing the WAND Local Search Taxonomy on your site means that search queries will be recognized and normalized and your users will get satisfying search results. Users will return again and your site will be driving more traffic to your advertisers.

Give us a call to ask for a free analysis of the quality of the local search results on your site and how you stack up against the competition. We’ll show you how the WAND Local Search Taxonomy can help improve your search results.

One final note: as 2005 comes to a close, everybody at WAND would like to wish all of our friends, colleagues, and customers a happy and prosperous 2006

Best regards,

Ross Leher Signature
